stock was jumping Wednesday morning following news that the home-goods retailer is selling some noncore assets, including its Christmas Tree Shop chain.

The company said late Tuesday it was also selling its Massachusetts-based distributor, its institutional Linen Holdings business, and a distribution center in New Jersey. The company said it expected to generate about $250 million from the deal.

Bed Bath & Beyond (ticker: BBBY) is in the midst of a turnaround, prompted by years of poor management. Last year, activist investors got involved, prompting management changes and other moves. Bed Bath & Beyond to sell Florence facility, Christmas Tree Shops

FLORENCE – Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. has agreed to sell a distribution center here as part of a plan to raise money through the sale of assets.

The troubled retailer on Wednesday also announced separate deals to shed its chain of Christmas Tree Shops and an institutional linen business.

The value of each transaction was not disclosed, but BB&B said it expects to generate about $250 million through the transactions.

The sales are intended to bolster the struggling firm’s finances and build shareholder value, said the Union-based company.

BB&B earlier this month reported a first-half net loss of $509.8 million for the six months ended Aug. 29. That compared to an $84.3 million deficit in the same period of 2019.

Bed Bath & Beyond Selling Christmas Tree Shops Brand and 2 Other Assets For $250 Million

In the latest in a series of divestments this year, Bed Bath & Beyond (NASDAQ:BBBY) is selling several of its assets. The company announced on Tuesday that it has reached agreements to unload its Christmas Tree Shops retail brand, its Linen Holdings unit, and a New Jersey distribution center. All told, these sales should bring in roughly $250 million for the specialty retailer.

The buyer in the most significant divestment, that of Christmas Tree Shops, is privately held Handil Holdings. It will receive all 80 outlets of the holiday retailer store. Part of the deal between the two companies is a transition service agreement that will kick in at the close of the transaction and “help ensure business continuity, particularly during the upcoming holiday season,” according to Bed Bath & Beyond.
