Louisville jail inmate facing new charges for trying to escape near kitchen area

A Louisville jail inmate is facing new charges after officials said he tried escaping the downtown facility.It happened just after 8 a.m. Thursday in the area near the kitchen. The inmate, according to jail staff, had been working at the time.He climbed into the ceiling, claiming he was having a psychiatric episode, in order to protect himself from faces he was seeing, they said.Despite being short-staffed, one of the corrections officers noticed the attempt almost immediately, according to information released by the union for the officers.They said that the inmate was caught hanging onto an air duct with some wires sparking. That’s when the officer was able to grab the inmate.Officials said the inmate, who was not identified, is now facing new charges that include attempted escape.
