You can ski in Vermont, hike in Vermont, fish in Vermont, and kick back in a vacation home in Vermont that evokes another facet of the Green Mountain State’s identity: its farm country. There are no cows in this Stowe condo, but it sure looks like a farmhouse with its sharply angled roof and a welcoming front porch, which is covered by a sloping (and hence snow-shedding) roof.

Gigi’s Country Kitchen

BATON ROUGE- The LSU Tigers, led by Joe Burrow, make their final home stand of the season on Saturday.

All eyes will be on the Heisman hopeful. And Travis Brand, owner of Gigi’s Country Kitchen, is one of the eager fans who’ll be watching.

Brand used to make omelets for Burrow in his Ohio hometown. He traveled to Baton Rouge to see how the young man he knew has grown into a leader and inspiration.

It was a shot in the dark when a group of LSU fans saw some of those signs that are outside of Gigi’s and decided they wanted to bring the owner down to Tiger Stadium to see Burrow in action himself. But after a few calls, they made it happen.

“He inspires our entire town. His hard work, dedication. It’s been pretty incredible,” Brand said.

Brand has seen Burrow’s success grow from his time at

Walters, a father of four who’s worked in the restaurant industry his whole life, finally branched off to start his own business: Sandra Lee’s Country Kitchen, a food truck slinging delicious Southern cooking. It’s the latest business to open amid the pandemic.

“At the beginning of this thing, nobody knew anything about what we were going to do and where we were going to go with it,” Walters said. “But I sat back and looked at it: Even though we’re going through a pandemic, people still have to eat. The People's Places: Cal’s Country KitchenCal’s Country KitchenPhoto: Eric England

With her new series “The People’s Places,” contributor Jennifer Justus will provide short takes on longtime local restaurants, markets and bars that deserve another look.

Cal’s Country Kitchen doesn’t open on Fridays, but sometimes owner Carolyn Buggs will go in anyway. Before a line of weekend customers winds like a plume of steam out the front door, she’ll spend time in the quiet sanctuary of the place washing turnip greens, picking out the stems, or maybe getting ahead on some baking.

“I stand in there and thank the Lord for what he’s done,” Buggs says. “It’s a lot of work, but I love what I do.”

Cal’s Country Kitchen has been serving plate lunches in Madison for 23 years. Turn on the side street between the Firestone and Fonda el Cubilete Mexican Restaurant on Gallatin Pike and you’ll find Cal’s inside a white house

Country Kitchen Ideas for a Small Ranch | Home Guides

Country kitchen design appeals to homeowners who prefer a slightly vintage style to their ranch-style home decors. Characterized by a light color palette, antique accessories and open storage, country kitchens are inherently casual and cozy. It is fairly easy to create a country style in any size kitchen, ranging from large to small. The translation is in the scale, color and details. The result is a kitchen that is a comfortable space to cook and entertain.

Light Walls

Make the entire kitchen appear larger than its actual measurements by incorporating light walls into the decorating scheme. Light colors help walls recede to give the illusion of additional space. Choose a color, such as buttercup yellow, sand tan or creamy white, for the walls. Formulations in a satin variety will give the walls a saturated result but also provide easy maintenance at the same time. Pop the light walls with bright
