Woman Slaps Wawa Employee After Being Told to Leave Store For Not Wearing Mask: Police

A maskless customer at a Wawa store in New Jersey, where masks are required in public under a state executive order amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, was arrested after slapping an employee in the face when she was told to leave the shop for not wearing a mask.

Police were called to the store, located at 299 Mountain Road in Hackettstown, at 12:24 a.m. local time on October 3 after Ashanty Niang, a 23-year-old from the New York City borough of Bronx, assaulted the employee, according to the Hackettstown Police Department.

Mask-less woman accused of slapping Wawa worker who told her to leave store

Face masks, or rather the lack of them, became the source of another flashpoint inside a store.

This time, it was a Wawa in New Jersey, where a mask-less woman is accused of slapping a Wawa employee in the face after being asked to leave the store, as WFMZ 69 News reports:

Suspect Ashanty Niang, 23, of New York, is charged with violating executive order, simple assault, and disorderly conduct, a Hackettstown Police Department news release states, adding:

Police said they responded to the Wawa for a report on a disorderly female who assaulted an employee shortly after midnight on Oct. 3.

Police say Niang was not wearing a face covering when she was inside the store. The employee asked her to cover her face, which she did with her jacket. Ashanty then took her jacket down, which was uncovering her mouth, police said.
